As a state-of-the-art facility, the Welkom Sub-Acute Rehabilitation Hospital will offer comprehensive healthcare services to patients in need of consistent therapy and treatments. Individuals with ongoing, sub-acute health conditions or injuries can turn to our newly upgraded hospital to fully support their recovery in a comfortable environment. Our sub-acute hospital was established in 2016 as a care facility catering to RMA pensioners. The hospital will soon re-open to the public in October 2021 after renovations and upgrades to the value of R25 million have been fully completed. The Welkom Sub-Acute Rehabilitation Hospital will deliver on RMA’s promise to serve with care and compassion, while providing comprehensive healthcare in South Africa’s public and private sectors. In addition, this lends itself to our greater mission of bridging the gap between underserviced communities and quality healthcare.
Who can benefit from the Welkom Sub-Acute Rehabilitation Hospital?
The hospital will cater to patients across South Africa suffering from chronic health conditions related to strokes or other forms of brain and spinal cord injury. This includes patients who require post-operative rehabilitation to restore maximum body
mobility and improve their quality of life after unexpected accidents. RMA’s Welkom Sub-Acute hospital is open to:
- Compensation Fund patients (Injury on Duty patients)
- Federated Employers patients
- Authorised Medical Aid patients
- Road Accidents Fund patients
- Department of Health patients

The goal is to help each patient make functional or full recoveries, lowering the overall re-admission rates in sub-acute hospitals. Patients and their families will have peace of mind, knowing that their needs are taken care of.
