RMA SEIFSA Partnership

We are an insurance company with a legacy of caring for people for more than 125 years. It is in our interests to see a growing metals and engineering industry. That is why we have partnered with the Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of Southern Africa (SEIFSA). Our role is to ensure that the industry, the companies, and the people who work within it, remain safe and secure.

Through education and partnership, we want to show company owners how easy it is to comply with laws such as the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA). We want to reiterate how important people are to this industry and we want to show the world that South Africa and its companies look after its people. It is very important that industry partner with organisations such as SEIFSA so that the industry gets better.

Every year we are excited to be the official sponsor for SEIFSA events, that drive networking and engagement between businesses and opens the possibility to new innovative ways of solving various issues faced within the industry.

In the last quarter we were delighted to support the annual Metals and Engineering Indaba, the much-anticipated annual Golf Day event and the Women’s Day event.

Here are some highlights from each event:

Metals and Engineering Indaba 2019

SEIFSA held its 5th Metals and Engineering Indaba on the 12-13 September 2019 in Sandton. The Indaba brings together leaders from business, labour and government and other interested parties of the steel and engineering sector to deliberate on ways to stimulate the performance of the metals, engineering and manufacturing sectors.

The event was officially opened by our CEO Mr. Jay Singh, who touched on the potential for economic growth within the metals and engineering sector especially for small business development. He also mentioned the importance of our partnership with SEIFSA and our role in making ensure that the industry, the companies, and the people who work within it, remain safe and secure.

Mr. Patrick Matshidize, our Chief Operating Officer participated in a panel discussion on the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the COIDA Environment. He touched on issues related to the Constitutional and Legislative Mandate of RMA, and how we are ensuring that through digital technology and innovative automated processes we are making the administration of claims for occupational injuries and diseases more efficient. SEIFSA Golf Day

The SEIFSA Golf Day was held on 30 August 2019, at the Houghton Golf Club. This year the Golf Day marked its 69th consecutive year, making it one of the longest-running industry golf tournaments in South Africa.

We sponsored hole 7 of 18 holes where teams of four from each company participated and played through all 18 holes. The event was a successful platform for businesses to enjoy a day of golf and network. Check out more on the event here.

SEIFSA Women’s Day

This year the annual SEIFSA Women’s Day event was held on the 16 August 2019 at the Johannesburg Country Club. Various businesses from the metals and engineering sector were invited to a “Pyjama Party” where ladies were dressed up in their favourite and funky Pyjamas. The theme of the day was “Learn what self-care really means” which was delivered by the guest Speaker Christen Oosthuizen, who reminded all the women at the event to take care of themselves physically, mentally and spiritually.

During Women’s month SEIFSA paid tribute to some of the most influential women in the industry, from the co-Founder of South Africa’s only 100% Black-Owned Raise Boring firm to the first Women to sit at the helm of an almost 100 year-old Engineers’ Association and an Award winning engineering student who is determined to succeed. We look forward to working with SEIFSA on many more exciting initiatives to drive engagement within the industry.
