Dr Maphai has, from March 2009 until retirement, been the Executive Director of Corporate Affairs and Transformation at SAB Limited. Previously he was Chairman of BHP Billiton Southern Africa. He holds a number of qualifications, including a Bachelor of Philosophy cum laude and a Master’s Degree in Philosophy magna cum laude (Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium), a PhD from the University of Natal, an honours degree in international politics from UNISA and he has completed an advanced management programme at Harvard University. He is widely published, both locally and internationally, and has held fellowships at the universities of Oxford, Harvard, Princeton and Stanford. From 1996 to 1998 he was professor extraordinaire in the Department of Political Science at the University of South Africa (UNISA). He has held a number of senior positions on various boards, commissions and universities and is currently Chairman of the National Responsible Gambling Programme (NRGP) and a commissioner on the National Planning Commission. Vincent also serves on a number of other boards and is currently the chairman of the Discovery Foundation, Taquanta Asset Managers (Pty) Ltd and Taquanta Treasury Solutions (Pty) Ltd.
