Augmentation Policy

The Augmentation Policy is a top-up cover of the COID benefit, suitable for employees that earn above the COID maximum payment limit. This policy covers earnings of up to R7.5 million a year.

Cover is calculated on the employee’s actual package – allowing them to maintain their usual lifestyle by receiving the right compensation at the right level of benefits for their income. This removes the earning’s ceiling placed by COID legislation.

COID Cover

Being compensated for a work-related injury or illness contracted at work will go a long way in ensuring your employee and their family are taken care of financially.

COIDA, 130 of 1993, as amended regulates how and when employees who have been injured at work or who have contracted an illness or disease in the workplace are compensated and clearly sets out the legal requirements for tariffs, compensation and the limitations for workers' claims. RMA has a mandate to administer COID for Class IV (Mining) and Class XIII (Iron, Steel and Metals) only.

COIDA provides for medical examination and treatment, disability certification and compensation. Similarly, when an employee died because of injuries sustained in the workplace or an occupational disease, the dependents of the deceased employee may qualify for benefits.

Which employees are covered by COID?
• Employees who were injured in an accident at work.
• Employees who contracted an occupational disease or illness at work.
• Employees who died from a workplace accident or occupational disease.

How is compensation calculated?
Compensation is calculated as a percentage of the employee’s earnings at the time the injury occurred or the disease was diagnosed.

Benefits are payable as per COID
• Medical expenses in South Africa
